It opens .msg files and can save them to .eml files - sometimes
I wanted an app that would open .msg files and export them to .eml files. This app does exactly that - occasionally.
I didnt want something that converts .pst files. Instead I wanted something to open individual e-mail messages created in Outlook 2003 on the PC and convert them to a format I could use in Outlook 2011 for the Mac. This seems to do the job but only intermittently. I cant determine a reason why it will succeed in converting some .msg files and not others.
It always seems to be able to convert messages to .rtf files.
It truncates the names of attached files.
I tried to save only Excel files that were attached to .msg files. It seems to recognize the existence of only .xls files, not .xlsx files. So while it will successfully save an attached Excel file to my desktop I will sometimes have to relabel the suffix from .xls to .xlsx. Then Excel opens the file and repairs it, after which the file appears to be intact.
I havent tried handling any other attachment file types.
This app always opens the .msg file and allows me to view it. It always allows me to save the message as a .rtf, but it is very unreliable at saving files in .eml format.
I can use this app as a stopgap measure until it is updated to reliably convert .msg to .eml.
